Forest Swords “Fjree Feather” EP (2011)

July 29, 2011

All the six songs on Fjree Feather were written before the release of the groundbreaking Dagger Paths. When the latter was rereleased, Fjree Feather was included (plus some remixes). Now, it is released again with all the benefits going to the people of Japan affected by that tsunami. OK, now let’s move to the most important thing here: the music. This EP feels like a sequel (or prequel, I don’t know any more) to Dagger Paths. It’s not that brilliant – instead of haunting drums, you’ve got more haunting guitars. There is no impression of murky R&B. This time is like a lost soundtrack to a Quentin Tarantino’s film (Jackie Brown comes to mind easily). Overall, it’s more funky with Riverbed and Red Rocks Fogg being the highlights.

hydrameter: 4/5

Key Tracks: Red Rocks Fogg, Riverbed
