St. Vincent “Marry Me” (2007)

August 4, 2011

It’s hard not to undergo St. Vincent’s charm from the very first tacts of her debut album Marry Me. Now, Now is an example of that skillful indie pop in which St. Vincent (real name: Annie Clark) specialises – it’s an astounding opener with massive chorus, igniting guitar (Annie’s trademark) and banging drums. St. Vincent’s talent lies not only in writing tunes: she plays most instruments on the record. Did I mention she’s got great voice? And don’t let that angelic look fool you: she can be ironic (Jesus Saves, I Spend) or murky (Paris Is Burning). Marry Me is a strong beginning of what can be a satisfying and surprising career.
