Glasser “Ring” (2010)

August 8, 2011

Glasser is Cameron Mesirow and with her full-length debut album she joined the most intriguing and original female vocalists ever (watch your back Björk). Ring is a sublime combination of heavy percussion and synths. The songs themselves are highly creative yet instantly attractive. Apply is one of the best opening songs I’ve heard, it’s massive thanks to its tribalism. Home is a musical equivalent of a bursting bubble. Plane Temp is deeply moving not only for the exotic chant. And here we are, it’s not astonishing that, above all, Cameron’s strong, full of emotion voice prevails. Don’t think of this alternative pop genius as another indie cuckoo or I’ll kick your ass – Ring is definitely my favourite album of 2010.

hydrameter: 5/5

Key Tracks: Apply, Clamour, Home, Mirrorage, Plane Temp, Treasury of We, Tremel (ok, the album is really one long track that ends exactly where it starts, as the title suggests)
