Cat’s Eyes “Cat’s Eyes” (2011)

August 9, 2011

Who would have known that Faris Badwan of The Horrors was such a fan of the ’60s girl groups? Together with Rachel Zeffira, a soprano and multi-instrumentalist, he formed Cat’s Eyes who specialise in alternative pop. Their debut album is splendid, instantly catchy, and, not surprisingly taking into account Badwan’s musical background, quite dark. Zeffira’s voice dominates, like on the brass-driven Bandit. If you prefer Faris, listen to the sinister Sooner or Later. The most memorable track is the danceable Over You. The whole thing has Ennio Morricone’s spirit which is great.

hydrameter: 4/5
