Cults “Cults” (2011)

September 2, 2011

Cults are Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion, two film students who just happened to score the best retro soul-pop album of the year. Despite its name, it’s super-optimistic and energetic. The duo crafts addictive songs such as Go Outside which created a buzz on this side of music last year. The first four tracks are flawless: Abducted is a fantastic opener, still just a hint of what’s to come, and You Know What I Mean has this massive chorus, the best thing the girl groups of the ’60s had to offer.

hydrameter: 5/5

Key Tracks: Abducted, Bad Things, Bumper, Go Outside, Most Wanted, You Know What I Mean
