Ford & Lopatin “Channel Pressure” (2011)

September 5, 2011

If you know Daniel Lopatin only from his ambient/drone project called Oneohtrix Point Never, you’ll be surprised by this album. Made together with Joel Ford of Tigercity, Channel Pressure is a nostalgic trip to the ’80s, a collection of catchy yet slightly melancholic tracks. F&L not only investige soft-rock, synth-pop or funk (to name just a few) – they are affected by the era’s production techniques as well. The singer’s cool and gentle voice is simply perfect for the songs, just listen to ingenious Emergency Room or sad The Voices. Here and there the duo evokes Daft Punk’s masterwork Discovery. Those missing the irretrievably lost carefreeness should expect strong emotions.

hydrameter: 4/5

Key Tracks: Channel Pressure, Emergency Room, Joey Rogers, The Voices
