Peaking Lights “936” (2011)

September 8, 2011

The husband-and-wife duo Peaking Lights make music as cool as the cover image of their second LP 936. Psychedelic pop would be the most appropriate term for their sound. The texture is loose, highly repetitive yet rich. The standouts are Marshmellow Yellow, a slow-building vibrating bass gem and tribal ragga of Amazing and Wonderful. Indra Dunas has an interesting voice that resembles Victoria Legrand from time to time in its ambiguity. And above all, the spirit of Jamaica hovers.

hydrameter: 3/5
