John Maus “We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves” (2011)

October 4, 2011

This one is tough. Is it a pastiche or just bad production? Anyway, it’s no surprise since this guy has worked with Ariel Pink. Unfortunately, John Maus has little to offer except for mutated voice, kitschy synths and some cool church bells (Head for the Country). If you want to listen to some good tunes wait till the second half of the album but this doesn’t change the fact that in Channel Pressure Ford & Lopatin do the ’80s way better.
